Position Summary:

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will, with commitment and passion, understand and present Anera’s mission, values, goals and results to the worldwide donor, investor and partner community. This role will lead Anera’s efforts to scale our revenue and impact. Provide strategic leadership of overall revenue streams, build and lead a new focus area on impact investments and alternative development financing, and oversee Anera’s fundraising (private philanthropy) and business development (public and institutional funding) teams. The CDO will serve as a member of the senior management team (SMT); reporting to the President/CEO and collaborating with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Country Directors, Anera Ventures LLC Board of Directors, the Anera Board of Directors and other senior leaders.

The successful candidate will have experience in impact investing, multi-channel fundraising efforts, corporate social responsibility (CSR), early-stage venture capital, private equity, or investment banking with a track record in deal sourcing, execution and company engagement and knowledge of other development financing models, as well as experience and knowledge of more traditional fundraising through charitable contributions and grant making.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership to develop and implement clear short-medium and long-term diversified funding action plans to scale revenue to meet more of the humanitarian and human development needs in Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and possibly Syria and Iraq

Design, develop, and close impact investment deals that allow Anera to scale and sustain impact through investments towards triple bottom line returns: people, planet, profits

Provide strategic guidance and leadership to significantly increase diversified revenue from various sources, including investors, corporate partnerships, government and institutional grants, philanthropic donations, and program revenue and profits that will go back into our not-for-profit work

Evaluate the effect of internal and external forces on the organization and its revenue plans, and adapt accordingly

Lead, design and implement the strategic vision for both the philanthropy and business development divisions

Provide leadership, direction, and supervision for the fundraising (FR) and business development (BD) teams based in Washington, DC, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan. Monitor and appraise the FR and BD teams’ performance to inform and meet revenue forecasts

Monitor and report on revenue performance against goals and the budget to the SMT, the CEO, and the Board

Expand the Anera network and pipeline of potential investment opportunities by networking including VCs, entrepreneurs, scientific founders, and other relevant ecosystem partners

Create/maintain an environment of respect, energy and inspiration, motivation, professional growth, high productivity and accountability

Provide input to the CEO and SMT on short and long-term strategic and operational planning, including the annual Anera plan, budget, and goals

Identify key investment partners and perform manager due diligence

Perform investment analysis, including financial modeling, and industry research Analyze financial information to forecast business, industry, and economic conditions relevant to our investment decisions

Evaluate the performance of investments, including monitoring quarterly financial results, industry and regulatory developments, and compliance with lending terms

Manage the team pipeline and other organizational documents

Lead catalytic grants to innovative financing and impact investments, invest in entrepreneurial start-ups and social enterprises, and utilize various investment tools that look beyond traditional approaches to philanthropy

Expand the Anera network and add to the Anera pipeline of potential investment opportunities by networking including VCs, entrepreneurs, scientific founders, and other relevant ecosystem partners.

Work closely with the Anera Board of Directors and key international advisors, supporters and volunteers, enlisting and motivating them to participate in revenue generating and fundraising activities

Provide leadership to ensure Anera and Anera Ventures LLC are using the latest tools, technologies and other innovations to drive efficient, effective work and results

Work with CFO’s office and legal counsel to ensure compliance on all financial and tax issues

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a relevant field (international relations/development, finance, business) with at least (7) years of experience in revenue development with at least three years of experience at a senior level.**

Experience in structuring corporate and investor partnership deals and leading the formulation and execution of impact investments and triple bottom line returns.

Experience managing global partnerships.

Exposure to revenue-generation from a wide variety of sources including investors/ investment funds, corporations, foundations, family offices and individuals.

Comprehensive management skills and experience are required, including but not limited to short and long-term planning, evaluation, directing and motivating staff, and financial management, including on a remote basis.

Demonstrated ability to maintain best revenue-generating and operational practices, employing clearly defined objectives and transparent methods to measure success.

Knowledge of and experience with private fundraising and resource generation and demonstrated success in raising six- and seven-figure gifts from donors and funders**

Knowledge of and experience with business development and proposal writing to win public, government and institutional grants.

Strong communication, strategic, and leadership skills, as well as the capacity and desire to work in an environment of consensus-based decision-making and highly effective cross-disciplinary cooperation.

Proposal writing and grant solicitation experience required.**

Excellent and persuasive communicator.

Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker

Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and self-directed environment

Ability to work cohesively and effectively in a team environment.

Travel:

This role requires approximately 10 % domestic travel and 20% international travel

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Arabic language

Knowledge of the Middle East preferred
